How to Style Your O-Shaped Body (Apple Shape)

Women with round shoulders and a fuller abdominal area, as well as slim, well-shaped legs, are typical representatives of the O shape, i.e. Apple shape. This shape has an emphasized stomach, usually in the upper part of the abdomen. We recommend avoiding waist belts, as well as too many pleats and ruffles in the torso area. The cut should be simple and gently follow the body shape.

The O body shape is present in more prominent figures, but it’s not uncommon in slim women, either. All the recommendations in this article also apply to pregnant women.

In order to move focus from the belly area, we try to shift it to the cleavage and legs.

Colors

Since the abdominal area is more prominent, we wouldn’t recommend a belt over the widest part of the waist. Also, the tops and bottoms shouldn’t be in contrasting colors that meet at the waist. However, irregular and contrasting shapes can be interesting and move the attention away from the widest area.

Skirts

This body shape usually has well-shaped legs, so we always try to show them off with knee-length skirts. Simple, flat skirts made of materials containing elastin are perfect for O-shaped bodies.

Feel free to go for skirts with decorations on the hips, and especially at the bottom parts. Asymmetry and color combinations that make bottoms look lighter also move focus from the belly area.

Interesting patterns and decorations at knee length are another way to bring attention to this area. You can also opt for asymmetric, yet simple cuts.

If you like pleats, they should ideally be located at knee length, or as a side detail of a wrap skirt.

Pants

Streight pants are a great choice for O shape. They can be of different lengths and unusual colors. Ideally, you should combine them with casual blouses and tunics.

You can also add to the look by choosing interesting accessories, such as a long necklace, sunglasses, or flashy shoes.

Dresses

If you like dresses with belts, make sure to wear it at the narrowest part of your torso. When it comes to O shape, that usually means a high waist, just below the breasts. Other than dresses, you can also wear tunics in this way.

Prominent women can look stunning in large patterns.

When you want to avoid emphasizing your waist, you can opt for a gentle pleat with a buckle on the side at the narrowest part of the waist.

Go with simple sleeves with no folds to avoid making your figure look wider in the shoulders. All V-shaped necklines, especially asymmetrical ones, look great on O-shaped ladies.

Accessories

Monochrome outfits with flashy details around the neck and a V-neckline will make the figure look taller. Also, a big, interesting purse will make you stand out.

*Our point of view:

Since the beginning of mankind and clothes, we as humans have always tried to play with them and adapt them to our ideas of beauty. Fashion is ever-changing and cyclically moving. For example, pear shape was the symbol of beauty during the Renaissance, while the so-called “princess waist” was the symbol of the 19th century (think Bridgerton). This silhouette could complement both pear and apple shapes. In the 1960’s, on the other hand, H-shape was considered very interesting, thanks to Twiggy.

Today’s trends and business etiquette say that hourglass is the most balanced figure. This is by no means a rule, but it is a popular belief that the closer we are visually to this body shape, we will feel and look more confident.

All of the advice above are only recommendations that can bring you closer to the “ideal”; however, if something feels good, we should wear it, regardless of what is recommended by anyone.
