Let Us Take You on a Tour of Florence

Florence, a captivating city with rich history and beauty at every corner, might remind you of a large open museum when you first visit it. Native to the Renaissance and home to beautiful art and architecture, it has actually been put on the UNESCO list of World Heritage. Let’s take a sightseeing tour and figure out what you can wear to make the most of it!

Tour of the center

Our first stop can be at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo).  It will take us a few kilometers of hiking, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothes, whether it’s a nice stretchy dress or loose pants and a blouse. Also, it’s important to bring a big enough purse or backpack, so you can store a water bottle, as well as some souvenirs you buy on this walk.

When in Italy – drink espresso! If you are a true coffee lover, you are surely aware that Italian espresso is more than just a simple drink. Much more than that, it’s a connection to Italian culture and way of life. So let’s take a break from our walk and take in the spirit of this magical place. And don’t worry if you don’t drink coffee – there’s always gelato (Italian ice cream) or tasty cakes.

Galleries and museums

The Leonardo da Vinci Interactive Museum is just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo.

The museum, being interactive, allows you to try out some of the prototypes built based on Da Vinci’s plans.  This expeirence will give you a deeper understanding of his versatility, curiosity, innovation, and creativity.  Let this space and Da Vinci’s spirit encourage you to be more curious, ask important questions, and explore the unknown.

As we continue our walk, we arrive to the symbol of the city, the famous bridge Ponte Vecchio on the river Arno. Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Florence, and it is considered to be one of the most beautiful bridges in the world. We have to admit that it doesn’t captivate with its beauty and grace when you look at it from the side… but when you are on it, we promise you will be dazzled.

What’s unique about this bridge is that it is fully covered in shops that date back to the 13th century. Actually, when it was first built, it housed all kinds of stores, including butchers, fishermen, and even tanneries, which caused an unpleasant smell of “industrial waste” to spread across the bridge. However, in 1593, Ferdinand I decreed that only goldsmiths and jewellers could sell on the bridge, which is still the case today.

Once you cross the Ponte Vecchio bridge, you can quickly reach the large Renaissance palace, Palazzo Pitti. Apart from a very beautiful location and a rich history, today it hosts many interesting exhibitions. There is also a beautiful garden where you can take a walk.

You’ll find a lovely cafe in the atrium of the palace, and this is just the place to have another cup of coffee or just browse the books that you can buy in the bookstores of the palace. Make sure to take the time to explore all of the museums in the Palazzo Pitti – you won’t be disappointed.

Another monumental building in the city center is the Medici Palace, the residence of the famous Medici family that ruled Florence for a long time. On the other hand, art lovers will definitely enjoy the Galleria dell’Accademia. The Academy Gallery was founded by fine arts students in 1784 and is the home of Michelangelo’s David.

Florence is also an important center of Italian fashion Industry. That means that you may find large world fairs, as well as world-class Italian brands in it.
